Rounders is played during the Summer Term at Bedford Girls’ School.
Participating in activities beyond the classroom is without doubt a crucial aspect of the broad-spectrum educational experience which we offer our pupils at BGS.
The sport of Rounders is fun and exciting. Rounders is taught to all girls from Years 3-8 and girls from Years 9-Upper Sixth can chose this as one of their summer Physical Education options. The sport gives them the opportunity to work as a team; to achieve personal and group success; to have fun, to stay fit and to unwind in a non-pressured environment, and to keep in perspective the academic rigours and demands of school life.
Every year we field Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 A-D teams. We also run Years 9 and 10 A and B teams. These six age groups compete regularly in local leagues throughout the week and contest Saturday fixtures in the Summer Term, with a very good success rate.
Training sessions are held throughout the week with each age group getting not only their lesson time, but also a lunchtime and after school practice. We train within and across the age groups, promoting peer-coaching, inter-house bonding and personal targets.
The school provides a programme of structured and enjoyable sessions, where all of our girls have the chance to realise their potential and to develop their Rounders skills. We aim to expose our pupils to a wide range of activities and challenges, so that when they leave BGS they are equipped with a varied portfolio of interests and experiences, which will serve them well in adult life.
To this end, we also offer recreational Rounders for the Senior School girls, who enjoy the social dimension of Rounders once a week without the pressure of competing against other schools.
We have fantastic facilities for Rounders at BGS, with four pitches on the school site and access to a further seven at our offsite playing fields and all the equipment we could possibly require.
Every year the Rounders season culminates with an exciting inter-house competition between each Year group from Years 4-Upper Sixth.
