Last Thursday (9th March) the U13 hockey team qualified for the National Hockey Finals.

The girls travelled to Redbridge Sports Centre, east London, to compete in the East Hockey Regional Finals.

They were dealt a tricky group so progression through to the knock out stage was going to be tough.

Despite a 1-0 loss to a strong Kent College team, the girls successfully won their second game against Beeston Hall after a fantastic performance. The final group game was against Kingshott, which the girls won 1-0. By winning their final 2 games, BGS were group winners on goal difference as Kent College lost to Kingshott.

Through to the knockout stages, the team faced St Faith’s, and after a dominant 2-0 win, the girls had to fight it out for the top four spots with the four other knockout winners. The girls played Kent College again, but this time worked to their game plan and stopped Kent’s two best players from getting the ball, leading to a 1-0 victory.

The U13s put in another brilliant performance to beat Orwell School 5-2 in the semi-finals.

The girls were full of confidence as they faced their final game against Felsted, winning 3-0 to finish off a fantastic day. They won six out of seven games, conceding only three goals and scoring 14 in the process.

Congratulations to Sophia Gallagher, Lilly Patel, Emily Fordham, Elizabeth Bruce, Scarlett Ames, Georgina Wright, Ella Craven, Daisy Inman, Cerys Peppiatt and Florence Miller, who are now through to the National Finals on Friday 12th May at Highfields Hockey Centre in Nottingham.
