Drama and Dance

On Friday 5th May, in preparation for their Devising Units, our GCSE and A Level Drama Students undertook a two-hour workshop led by The Gomito Theatre Company.

The unit asks students to become theatre makers in creating their own original piece of drama. Essential to this process is the willingness to take risks and to have the courage to allow creativity to develop organically without pre-planning or pre-judging.

The workshop leader, Heather Long (RADA graduate), was very impressed by the girls’ willingness to accept ideas, respond imaginatively to stimuli and avoid clichéd responses. She particularly enjoyed the imaginative improvisational skills they displayed and how this allowed her to develop tasks in more depth than was usual for a student workshop. This bodes very well for both year groups as they begin the exciting process of devising!
