On Thursday 28th September, ten Year 11 girls were invited to attend the GSA Girls Go Goldconference at Wimbledon High School in London.

The conference aims to promote excellence in young women’s sport and gives the opportunity for girls to take part in various sports activities with elite athletes from various sports including hockey, rowing and swimming. Year 11 students Victoria Brakenbury and Katie Lunn summarise their experience below:

“We attended the hockey session, run by Olympic gold medalist Crista Cullen and worked on different skill sets and mental preparation and had a crash course in drag flicking at the end! Other sessions included swimming with World Champion Karen Pickering, which really helped with improving various techniques. We also enjoyed netball with Tania Hoffman, from the Surrey Storm Super League team. The lectures on Sports Psychology and support within your sport were both interesting and helpful.

After all of our sessions, we had a Q&A with all the athletes including Frank Lampard, who was coaching a small football session, and cricket coach and former England cricketer Graham Thorpe.”
