Juvenes Translatores Contest

On Thursday 23rd November, four talented Upper Sixth linguists who are studying the IB Diploma (Michelle-Linda Cudjoe, Julia Southern-Wilkins and Izzy Swaney for Spanish and Emily Fields for French), took part in the prestigious Juvenes Translatores translation contest.

Since 2007, language students from all over Europe have taken part in the contest in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of translation skills and the need to understand each other’s cultures. It also points out the importance of diversifying the languages we learn to increase multilingualism.

The students had to translate a very sophisticated text from Spanish and French into English, aiming for the magic formula of how to stay true to the original, while writing fluently and idiomatically in their own language at the same time. We are looking forward to hearing the results next February.
