The annual House Glee 2017 Finals didn’t fail to disappoint on Friday afternoon (1st December) in the Assembly Hall. We had 56 acts in total with 13 making it through to the final afternoon.
One of the highlights of the Bedford Girls’ School calendar, the event was kicked-off by our very own Girls’ Leadership Group, who choreographed an impressive dance routine to It’s Raining Men! with wellies and umbrellas included!
The six Houses then battled for the 2017 title, with each House having two or three individual performances including singing, dancing and musical performances. The atmosphere in the Assembly Hall was electric with students and staff clapping, chanting and supporting their House.
Mrs Jones, Assistant Head, Co-Curriculum adds: “Glee represents everything that is good about the House System at BGS; team work and respect for one another is evidenced in every single act. It demonstrates how bold the girls are when a Year 3 pupil who has been in the school only three months, can get up in front of the whole school and dance!”
The winner from the competition will be announced next week on our social media channels and in the EDIT next week.
Year 7 pupil Charlotte Parnham, wrote an amazing poem about being in Nightingale, it wasn’t right for the finals but it is a great poem, which encapsulates everything we want the girls to be at BGS:
We follow our hero showing kindness and compassion,
In a simply more modern fashion
Working for our community at every given opportunity.
We will conquer every hurdle
Whether physical or verbal
Striving to win without making a din, because showing endeavour is forever.
Nobody will contain us we're far too courageous, and of our squad bond we are far too fond
We will overcome outdated portrayals
A nightingale girl wants no slipper of glass she has a whole glass ceiling to smash
She won't be waiting for her prince to come, where would be the fun?
Nor is she scared of a spider, she has a lot more fibre!
Our futures bright we will achieve an unforeseen height.
Even when our time at BGS has come and gone the light of Nightingale will shine on!
