Whole School Computer Science

Mr Potter (Director of Digital Strategy)

Last Thursday, we were lucky enough to get a visit from Dr Harin Sellahewa, acting Dean of the Computer Science faculty at the University of Buckingham.

A group of girls from Years 9 to 11 had a hands on session exploring some of the key features of Python, the Microsoft Hololens hardware, as well as a fascinating session on steganography and how it can be used to send secret messages through the internet.

The Hololens is a mixed reality device in that you can see models and animations of virtual objects, but also the real world at the same time, which essentially makes it a combination of virtual reality and augmented reality. In the session, the girls used hand gestures to investigate and explore a model of a car. They could see the various components and could walk around the model and view it from any angle.

Dr Sellahewa was highly impressed with the skills the girls had, vowing to ‘make the activities harder’ on his next visit!
