Mrs Copp (Deputy Head of Junior School)

This term, Year 6 have been reading the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry; it is a work of dystopian fiction, wherein the communities can only view the world in black and white, a world without colour.

The community lacks any colour, memory, climate, or terrain, all in an effort to preserve structure, order, and a true sense of equality beyond personal individuality. 6C were tasked to take photos using the monochrome filter of an aspect of nature and then used a variety of sketching techniques to sketch the image. This helped them to reflect on the idea of what the world would be like if there were no colours and how colour helps inform our identity and enriches our diverse world.
