Senior School Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)

Mr Farrell (Duke of Edinburgh Manager)

Last weekend over 80 students from Year 10 completed their Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) Bronze Expedition. Working in 13 separate groups and carrying all their food and equipment, the students completed a two-day walking route around the villages of North Bedfordshire camping overnight in Bromham. The weather was excellent for walking with cloud cover providing cool temperatures and only the occasional rain shower.

Throughout the two days, the groups were responsible for their own navigation, cooking and camp craft. All groups did really well and were successful in their endeavours. When issues arose, such as a couple of groups encountering very muddy conditions on part of their route, they teams worked together to get themselves back on track. Food is always an important feature of any DofE expedition and the groups created some fantastic evening meals cooking on an expedition stove.

Many thanks to all the staff who supported the weekend's expedition. The logistics of so many groups out walking made it a hard two days, but their support and dedication, coupled with the student’s efforts certainly made it a successful event.
