Whole School The Bridge Careers Service

By Ms Drapela (Careers and Sixth Form Administrator)

It’s always a pleasure to welcome our alumnae back into school, and this last Tuesday (21st March) we were delighted to welcome Elizabeth Gilbertson, Bedford High School Alumna, for a Lunch Box Lecture as part of our on-going careers series.

She spoke about her career in the Royal Air Force as an Aerospace Engineer. Following her education at the University of Southampton, where she earned a Masters of Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering, Elizabeth was commissioned into the RAF as an Aero Systems Engineer in 2003. From there she thrived in her career from Junior Engineering Officer to Military Assistant to Director Air Support, to Group Captain and Chief Air Engineer. She knows no bounds when it comes to her career and was an inspiration to listen to as she detailed her incredible work to date.

Elizabeth was personable and insightful as she highlighted her work as an Aerospace Engineer as well as the amazing work the Royal Air Force does and the opportunities they provide, highlighting the many roles and programs the RAF offer.

In closing, Elizabeth left her audience assured that their interests and skills can be met and developed with a career in the Royal Air Force, especially for those aspiring to be an Aerospace Engineer.
