Junior School Eco and Sustainability

By Mrs Howard (Year 6 Teacher)

The Junior School Gardening Club got off to a fantastic start this year with a bumper harvest. We had a group digging for potatoes and saving earth worms on their way. Whilst our other group was enthusiastically picking apples from the tree and picking: rainbow chard, tomatoes and runner beans with Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6).

We are very excited to be using our beautiful school gardens to grow vegetables that the pupils were able to take home, embracing locally sourced and organic food

Evelyn (6I) said: “Getting to pick the apples from the tree was really fun and it makes them far more delicious when they are fresh!”.

Lisa (6H) added: “Gardening club is very fun and great for learning tips about gardening. I really enjoyed it!”

We love getting our hands muddy, teaching our pupils about how to connect with nature and take care of the environment. We look forward to revealing what sprouts up next later in the year, including our collaborations with Eco Club.
