Diversity and Inclusion’s Acts of Kindness

By Miss Coote (Year 4 Teacher) and Helena Schofield (Head of Year 4)

In the spirit of our school's commitment to community and social responsibility, our young learners have recently undertaken a heart-warming project that demonstrates the profound impact of collaboration and compassion. Under the guidance of our Junior School Captain, Amy Sturt, our Student Diversity and Inclusion group came together to support the 100 Ladles Project, a local charity that assists rough sleepers and homeless individuals in Northampton.

This charitable community action group operates in the heart of Northampton, providing critical assistance to those experiencing homelessness. Every Saturday evening, volunteers gather in the town centre to serve hot meals, distribute blankets, sleeping bags, and snack packs to those in need.

Our students enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of less fortunate individuals. During lunchtime, they decorated paper bags with inspirational quotes, imbuing each one with messages of hope and encouragement. In addition to the heartfelt messages, our students then assembled the snack packs with great care. These packs contain essential items like cereal bars, cake bars, raisins, and crisps, providing a small respite from hunger and nourishment for those in need.

Throughout this project, our students have not only demonstrated individual acts of kindness but also exhibited a profound understanding of social entrepreneurship. They've learned that creating positive social change involves identifying local community needs and taking concrete actions to address them. This endeavour reflects the principles of our Primary Years Programme, encouraging students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who understand the importance of empathy and social responsibility.
