The U19 had the fantastic opportunity of playing the U19 Independent Schools Hockey Championship plate finals on Tuesday after a terrific cup run.

In the semi-final against Reigate Grammar School the teams went 2-0 up but Reigate came back to draw level. BGS showed amazing resilience and almost did  enough in the last five minutes to win the game but ultimately went to penalty strokes. Goalkeeper Amelia Jones was the hero of the day with three incredible stick saves out of four in the shoot-out. BGS won on strokes and progressed through to the ISHC final against Scarborough College.

The Final was a really tight and tough game with both teams having good spells of play, but neither team really forcing the keepers into big saves. Scarborough College went one nil up and then Year 11 Isla Campbell equalised in the 2nd half to draw the game at full time, once   again taking the game to even more nerve wracking penalty strokes. Amelia came to the fore in the shootout saving a flick on the second round of sudden death allowing Captain Megan Howlett (Upper Sixth) to step up and put the winning flick into the bottom corner.

This was a well-deserved success for a fantastic group of students who truly represent everything that BGS stands for, we are extremely proud of their achievements, attitude and commitment. We wish the Upper Sixth players every success in the future.
