By Mrs Cruse (Head of Years 7 and 8)

During the second half of the Spring Term, Year 8 work on a collaborative project with the Lower Sixth Business Studies students, looking at how to set up a business and consider a product which they can sell to Year 6 students at an annual Fair on 21st March.

The Year 8 students are set the challenge of spending only £10 per team, and often they use innovative ways to recycle or upcycle things that they have at home. The Lower Sixth students help them to think about how to market their product and consider the audience that they are appealing to. The Lower Sixth students put into practice the skills they are learning as part of their Business Studies course and devise the sessions which they run during the Year 8 form time.

Within their Form Groups students work in their Houses, and all money they raise at the Fair will go to the school charity FACES. Year 8 works very closely with the charity FACES, so it is really important to them to make the event a success. Year 8 have already embraced the challenge, as they remember when they were in Year 6 and how they excitedly came over the road to see what Year 8 had for them to spend their pocket money on.
