Miss Greig (Second in Mathematics) and Mr Jeffryes (Mathematics Teacher)

There have been a whole host of mathematical competitions this term including the UKMT Regional Finals and Maths Feast.

Last Tuesday saw students in Year 8, Alexandra Gentry and Cecilia Kilpatrick and Year 9, Anna Felice and Charlotte Sanders compete in the UKMT Regional Finals at the University of Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge. The girls tackled a variety of engaging mathematical activities while developing teamwork and communication skills.  The four rounds included a group round, a cross number, a shuttle and relay round.

Anna Felice added: “It was a fun day that stretched our mathematical abilities, all four rounds we participated in were challenging but we learnt from our attempts and got better as the day went on.”

On Tuesday, four Year 10 students competed in the annual Maths Feast competition at Milton Keynes Academy. Anya Mistry, Bavani Dhinakharan, Lucy Liu and Masooma Sultana faced 18 teams from 12 schools in series of challenging Mathematics and logic problems.

In some rounds, the girls were not allowed to talk to each other but in others, they had to work collaboratively to solve some very thought-provoking questions. The competition was tough but the girls managed to secure a fantastic fifth place.
