We were thrilled to open our doors to the public on Saturday for the Whole School Open Morning. It was wonderful to finally welcome back current and prospective families to the school to get a feel for what life is like at BGS.

With Mrs Gibson (Headmistress) and Masooma Sultana (Head Girl) getting the morning off to an exciting start in the Senior School Assembly Hall, students then proceeded to do a brilliant job of giving visitors a tour of the school.

The school was full of energy and excitement with all departments demonstrating a plethora of activities including a whole range of sports to try in the Sports Hall; language games in MFL; fun science experiments in the labs and ICreate space.

In the Drama and Dance department, rehearsals were in full flow for the GCSE Devised Performances; and in the foyer, there were displays from the Year 8 model making project and various props and costumes from productions. Meanwhile in the Sixth Form Common Room, Mrs Woolley (Director of Sixth Form), and her team chatted to potential Sixth Form families, discussing options and aspirations.

Over in the Junior School our Years 4, 5 and 6 students were fantastic tour guides, encouraging prospective pupils to try out many activities including producing beautiful Autumnal leaf rubbing artwork using wax crayons, potting seeds and flower dissection. The visitors then listened to presentations delivered by Mrs Howe (Head of Junior School) and one of the Junior School Ambassadors, Megan (Year 6).

During the morning, visitors also enjoyed musical performances from our talented students at various points of the school – they really added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Here are a selection of quotes from attendees from the event:

“Just wanted to drop you an email to say how impressed we were with the school, staff and girls at today's open morning. Particular thanks to Chloe who showed us and our daughter round, she is a credit to both the school and her parents, incredibly patient…… but also very well informed and gave us a great introduction to your wonderful school.”

“We attended Open day today, we loved the headteacher talk and were very impressed with your Head Girls (Masooma Sultana) speech too! A student from Year 9, Charlotte, took us around, we must say we were quite astounded with her intimate knowledge about BGS even considering she had studied there since Year 3! She was brilliant and had detailed answers to all our questions even when they were not her subjects, not once did she say “I don’t know”. Very impressive… please pass on our compliments…her parents should be very proud of her. Thanks again for a wonderfully organised day overall...!”

“Thanks very much for your efforts today. We really enjoyed our visit - thanks for the opportunities to see the school up close and my daughter loved the chance to get hands on with science, sports and D&T.”

Our next Open Morning takes place on Wednesday 10th November 2021, register your interest here. If you would like to arrange a private tour, please email [email protected], call us on 01234 361918.
