Many congratulations to talented footballer, Darcey Griffiths (Year 7), who alongside her teammates remained undefeated in an Elite Girls football tournament during the recent half term.

Representing the U12 age group for Northampton Town FC Academy, the team played matches against Arsenal, Peterborough and Watford. The competition was very tough for all players involved, due to a very high standard of football, this was especially important to Darcey as she was playing against her previous club, Arsenal.

Northampton were the only team not to lose a match and only conceded one goal throughout the tournament, the highlight being a 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

Darcey played her usual high pressing football, playing centre midfield and created lots of through balls and scoring opportunities, almost scoring from a rebound against Arsenal.

Darcey reflected: “It was a great opportunity to play with many amazing players and teams. I love playing for Northampton and was thrilled to be selected through trials to join this team playing for a pro club and am happy to say we didn't lose a match. I hope any students at BGS reading this will be inspired to take up football, as it is a fun sport with the women’s game rapidly growing and now starting to command big audiences.”

Good luck to Darcey in her next match, which will be against West Ham United today in the London Girls Superleague!
