Senior School Rowing

Miss Huckle (Head Rowing Coach)

On the Bank Holiday weekend 60 rowers from BGS raced at the London 2012 Olympic rowing venue, Dorney Lake. On Sunday 1st May, the Boat Club attended Wallingford Regatta. This is an extremely high-quality multi-lane regatta attracting schools, universities and clubs from across the country. The BGS First VIII of Alex Gentry, Lottie Giles, Aimee King, Olivia Smith, Chloe Howe, Millie Partridge, Anna Beckmann, Emily Pinkney and Annie Hine competed in the prestigious Junior Girls Championship VIII’s event. In an extremely competitive field, the eight put in a solid performance and recorded a personal best time for the season so far. We also saw our Senior and J16 IV’s race on the six-lane lake over 2000 metres as we head into the final few weeks of preparation for the National Schools Regatta.

The following day, on Monday 2nd May, more rowers travelled to Dorney Lake to compete in the National Junior Sculling Regatta. This is a fantastic, high quality junior event that again attracts crews from all across the UK. Our senior quad and three J15 quads competed in very competitive fields gaining invaluable experience on such a prestigious lake. A special mention however must go to our J14 Octo, who were competing in their first ever side by side racing, and qualified for the finals. They finished ranked 11th nationally. A huge well done to Sonia Erwig, Pippa Barney, Bella Moretto, Gracie Beech, Ellie Robson-Green, Steph Smith, Eve Moriando, Eva Blake and Emily Feiger.

The Friends of BGS Boat Club will be enjoying the racing from the BGS tent on Saturday, and are also hosting the Annual Rowing Ball on Friday 8th July 2022 – please save the date, and tickets will be available soon! View the creative poster here
