Many congratulations to the Year 10 students Aadya Betadpur, Mitali Misra and Tanvi Shukla who cracked Week One of The Alan Turing Cryptography Competition 2023. The young codebreakers managed to decipher a hidden message from a series of pictures.

Organised by the University of Manchester Department of Mathematics, the online cryptography competition is aimed at secondary school children in the UK up to Year 11 (England and Wales). You don't need to be a computer whizz or a mathematical genius — you just need to keep your wits about you and be good at solving problems!

It’s not too late to take part in this competition, if any young codebreakers are interested you will find the link to this week’s problem on Twitter at @BGS_Maths. There will be a small prize for the team which solves the greatest number of puzzles. If you manage to solve any of the puzzles please send a snapshot of your answer along with the names of your team members to Mrs E Barari (Mathematics teacher).
