Junior School Philosophy and Religion

By Mrs Baker (Year 4 Teacher)

Year 4 had a fantastic day on Tuesday, fully immersed in Hindu culture. As part of our Unit of Inquiry, Year 4 have been finding out how different religions express their ideas, beliefs and values.

Our visitor, Indri, engaged the girls with story-telling, dressing up and even a Hindu wedding ceremony. The morning began with the sharing of colourful garlands and learning about the Trimurti.

Then, having learnt how Hindus express themselves through dance, the girls mastered a group dance with dandiya (sticks). It really was an impressive sight seeing the coordinated dance moves! In the afternoon, the girls developed their understanding of Hindu clothing. Everyone had the opportunity to learn how to tie a sari and turban before attending a mock Hindu wedding.

The girls all left the day with smiles on their faces and a greater awareness of the Hindu culture.
