Senior School Art & Textiles

Miss Nelson (Art and Textiles Teacher)

We needed no excuse on Tuesday! The sun was shining and we were all feeling the joy of spring, so we headed out into the school’s gardens to sketch and paint during our first textile’s lesson as a class again.

Having researched into the work of William Morris whilst remote learning, the Year 9 textile students began their initial recording work by observing, sketching and painting the shrubs and flowers they found growing in the school grounds. Morris, a founder of the Arts and Crafts Movement, is best known for his intricate, interlocking designs based on flowers and leaves. And, just like Morris, our students are looking to nature for inspiration for their own pattern designs.

Listening to the students laughing and chatting whilst painting was just the welcome back I was hoping for!
