On Tuesday, we welcomed Susan Quince, Deputy Headteacher from Pilgrims Pre-Prep School, and Ritu Mistry, the Education Development Advisor from the Harpur Trust, to run a session with the Lower Sixth students who have been visiting Shackleton Primary to read one-to-one with their Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 students.

The session focussed on phonics and gave advice and tips on how to make their students feel comfortable and confident, and to encourage and support their reading development. Our Lower Sixth students were then given the opportunity to practise their new skills on each other, particularly their new discovery of how we actually pronounce the letter ‘X’!

Miss Dawson, Biology Teacher (CAS & Service Coordinator) said: “The students involved in the Shackleton reading project really appreciated the session, as they want to make sure that they do a good job and that the Shackleton students benefit from reading with them. The advice given was simple and practical but will make a big difference to all of the students involved. Thank you to Susan and Ritu for giving up their time to come in and support them.”
