Mrs Wathen (Head of Biology)

The Lower Sixth biologists spent the day at Cople Fields on Thursday 23rd June. The students worked fantastically well collecting data for A Level core practical and the IB internal assessment. Investigations ranged from the effect of trampling on ribwort plantain to investigating the distribution of lichen on oak and beech trees.t was lovely to have such a biodiverse habitat available to us, although thanks  to Miss Pearl (Biology Teacher) we managed not to step on the rather large grass snake in the orchard!.

Aleeza Riaz (Lower Sixth) reflected: “I enjoyed the biology field trip and thought that it was extremely beneficial as I feel that I got a deeper understanding of ecology. It gave us the opportunity to do some work independently as we came up with the titles and plan of our practical but also as a team as we had to work in twos or threes to get our ideas across and communicate with our team members. It was also really fun as we had the freedom to express our ideas and explore Cople fields to get the data for our core practical.”
