Senior School Swimming

By Mr Castro (Head of Swimming)

On Saturday morning, 10 of our swimmers took part in the Bedford Junior Aquathlon in Bedford Park. This is a continuous swim and run event with different distances for each year group. The swim took place in Robinson Pool and the run around the park.

BGS had four Year 4 swimmers in action, swimming 133m and running 1.2km. Imogen Murphy won gold with the third fastest swim and fastest run, and Esme Kelly won bronze with the 4th fastest swim and run. Close behind them in 4th came Grace Jackson who had the fastest swim out of all of the Year 4 girls competing, and Leah Edwards-Vogt in 5th with the 6th fastest swim. It was brilliant to see the BGS swimmers posting four of the six fastest swim times, and claiming two medals!

In Year 5 we were represented by Florence Richbell who had the 6th fastest swim in her age group. Florrie was also racing 133m in the pool and 1.2km on the run, and finished 9th overall in the Year 5 competition.

Year 6’s had to swim 200m and run 1.9km, and we had four students competing. Roisin Cross finished in 4th place with the 4th fastest swim and 5th fastest run and following in quick succession to each other were Nelly Sibbald in 8th, Isabella Hoare in 10th and Samika Sethi in 12th. The girls had the 5th, 9th and 12th fastest swims respectively across the Year 6 girls.

Finally, in the Year 7 age group Eva Jackson was also racing a 200m swim and a 1.9km run. Eva was the fastest in the swim and second fastest on the run to claim a very tight gold medal overall by 3 seconds!

It was great to see the BGS swimmers performing so well in the swim section of the race, and to watch them experiencing a multi-sport event, often for the first time.
