Senior School Swimming

By Mr Castro (Head of Swimming)

Swimmers have been busy and back in action over the past two weeks. A team   representing Years 7 – 11 attended the Annual Warwick 50’s which took place on the 1st February. This is a highly competitive swimming gala with 14 schools from around the country taking part. We recorded some strong performances, including Eva Jackson (Year 7) taking an impressive 2nd place in the 50m Fly.

This week we took part in a triangular gala against Edgbaston High School and King’s High School  Warwick, and with two strings available at this gala BGS was able to take a large team comprising U12, U14 and the U16 swimmers. There was some fantastic swimming from across all of the age groups, with some swimmers stepping out of their comfort zones and trying new events. It was a tense and closely matched competition as one team would get a head before the tables were turned in the next event. Going into the last event BGS was in front, but both Edgbaston and Warwick had very strong relay teams and the gala ended up in a 3-way tie for the trophy, with each team achieving 36 points.

I am very proud of the performances by all of our swimmers and we came away with some great results and new goals to work towards.
