Years 10-Upper Sixth Textiles students visited one of London’s most famous art galleries, the Tate Modern, on Wednesday.

The purpose of the trip was to gain inspiration from the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition. The artist is best known for her paintings of magnified flowers, animal skulls and New Mexico desert landscapes.

This exhibition brought together some of her most important works, including Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 1932, the most expensive painting by a female artist ever sold at auction.

With no works by O’Keeffe in UK public collections, the exhibition was a rare chance for the girls to appreciate O’Keeffe’s work up close.

Charlotte Linley-Hill said: “My friends and I were very impressed by Georgia O'Keeffe's diverse subject matter and how her work is vastly prolific. It showed her main work as well as her influences which gave more insight towards her art.

“We were able to further our inspiration from the exhibition which will help us towards our current Textiles work.”
