Bedford Girls’ School once again produced fantastic sporting results in the pool and on the netball court, proving yet again we can achieve at the highest levels.

On Saturday 18th November, our swimming squad competed in the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) Finals at the London Aquatics Centre. It was the first time all our age groups - Juniors, U13, Intermediate, U15 and U18 qualified in every event.

It was a fantastic event and the atmosphere in the Aquatics Centre was electric. The hours of hard training was emulated in the pool and all the girls rose to the occasion, putting in courageous performances. A highlight of the event was our Junior girls' team who placed fourth in the 4x50m freestyle final, they missed out on a podium place by half a second. We are extremely proud of all the performances; our girls competed against the very best swimming specialist schools in the country, notably Mount Kelly and Millfield.

In other sporting news, our U14 netball team competed in the County Tournament looking to reach the Regional Finals. The team finished off the day triumphant winning all of their games (against strong opponents from Bedford Modern School, Samuel Whitbread Academy and Sharnbrook Upper School) in tough wet conditions.

This meant they were crowned U14 County Champions and were the third BGS age group squad to qualify for the Regional Finals. This is the first time in BGS history where all three age groups (U14, U16 and U18) have qualified for the Regional Finals, which takes place in late January. Good luck to all the girls involved.
