Congratulations to Upper Sixth Student Harriet Knights who scooped the top prize in the three-dimensional design category at the University of Northampton Schools Art and Design Competition 2017.

This year the competition attracted 379 entries from 22 schools in Northamptonshire and surrounding counties. Harriet was invited to the university to collect her award at the public exhibition on Thursday 30th November. She summaries her experience below:

“The brief was quite ambiguous and did not specify a theme that the work needed to follow; this meant that there was an incredible variety of works including photographs, paintings, three dimensional works and more. That evening there was also an award ceremony. I was fortunate to have my work, Waste of Space, place first in the three-dimensional design category.

The work was described as having a tactility to it which made the judges smile as they looked at it; this for me was important because often the fun element of art can be forgotten. The art that was submitted to the competition was of a high level and so I am very proud to have won 1st prize in one of the categories.”
