Mrs Greenwood (Teacher of History, Philosophy and Religion)

Last Friday, students in Year 10 and 11 attended a GCSE Religious Studies conference in London.

The lecturer throughout the conference was Dr Peter Vardy; a philosopher, theologian and author who has been heralded as 'one of the leading experts of religion and values education in Britain, Australia and New Zealand'. He has written many books on the subject including Ethics Matters and The Puzzle of God.

It was an opportunity for the girls to further their understanding of complex philosophical ideas such as personhood, our responsibility for the environment and the nature of God.

The conference included the opportunity for a live debate between the students and for them to stretch their understanding beyond the demands of GCSE.

Bella Hoar and Isobel Stultiens (Year 11), said: “Attending Peter Vardy’s lecture, we found ourselves frequently challenging our own initial beliefs and were exposed to an intellectual discussion. This consequently led us to consider a variety of ethical views that contribute to the environment and economy. On reflection, it was an invaluable experience that will no doubt aid us in our future studies.”
