Senior School Swimming

Many congratulations to talented swimmer, Lucy Young (Year 11), who has qualified for the Swim England Nationals this summer.

The meet is Swim England’s biggest domestic swimming event of the year and forms part of a swimming competition structure in Great Britain whereby the top ranked swimmers in each event are invited to compete at the British Swimming Summer Championships.

Lucy has qualified for the 1500m event, which is a hugely impressive achievement as only the top 15 across the whole country gain a spot in this discipline; she will also compete against athletes that are 17 years of age and over.

Lucy said: “Achieving nationals has always been a goal of mine and now to be actually competing at the event this summer seems a bit surreal! It has taken a lot to get to this point and shows how my hard work and commitment has paid off. I am extremely excited to compete at nationals this summer and excited to mix with some of the best swimmers in the country. It will help me gain invaluable experience of swimming at a higher level which will help for hopefully more national level events next season. I would also like to thank Mr Castro (Head of Swimming) and Miss Gray (Head of Year 10 and 11) for their support throughout my swimming journey at BGS.”

Lucy currently represents the Modernian Swimming Club in Bedford and has been competing competitively since she was 10 years old. She has won multiple Bedfordshire County Junior Championship titles and now holds Senior County Championship titles. Lucy also swims with Mr Castro as part of the BGS school swim team and has competed in National competitions and finals representing BGS and hopes to continue with this success as she moves into the Sixth Form.
