Sport House

By Mrs Mason-McLeod (Director of Sport)

With the English summer throwing a bit of a wet curveball, it meant that Senior School Sports Day on Tuesday had to be delayed by a few hours. However, once dry, the six Houses, accompanied by staff, made their way down to the Bedford International Athletics Stadium for what is the largest House event of the academic year. With nearly 5,000 House points up for grabs across over 140 events, it most certainly had something for everyone!

There was so much passion and excitement seen across the faces of many, whether it was through competing or watching their peers take part in races, jumps, or throws. Sports day most certainly brings out the wacky outfits, and there were mascots, tutus, face paint, and wigs aplenty, with every student really digging deep into their House spirit.

For some, it is not only the Sports Day race that they have their sights on winning. There are also a number of Sports Day records that have been set since BGS was formed in 2011, many of which are very long standing and have been set by a number of very successful alumnae. A huge congratulations needs to go to Jessica Parrish (Chanel), who secured a new school record in the 800m (2 minutes 23 seconds), beating 2021 Alumna Maddie Axford by an impressive four seconds.

It was such a brilliant day enjoyed by the BGS community. A regular highlight is the mass handout of ice lollies at the end of the day, which are kindly donated by the, The Association. A big thank you from all the students and staff for continuing this long-standing tradition!

Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you to all the staff who contributed to another successful and thoroughly enjoyable Senior School Sports Day. Congratulations to Hepburn, who retained their Sports Day House Cup title for a second year running.
