After yet another outstanding House Drama competition after six weeks of commitment to rehearsals, the results have been announced!

The audience were particularly impressed by the standard of performances across all six Houses, but there could only be one winner and this year it was Hepburn with a unique play centred around Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Voldemort stole the show but the casting was strong throughout and there was fabulous attention to detail.

Hepburn were closely followed by Nightingale in 2nd place with their version of Star Wars. The dedication of all their cast and directing team showed through in a superbly polished performance.

Chanel snuck into 3rd place with a very humorous adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which really championed the IB learner profile ‘principled’ through the character of Charlie, in comparison with the other winners of the golden tickets!

The brief for the Lower Sixth in each House to write a script with a focus on one of the IB learner profile attributes, and then direct the Year 7’s to a level where they could perform before half term is no mean feat.

Varsha (Year 7) said: “Honestly, I absolutely adore drama and having the opportunity to do it with your friends in your House was a brilliant experience. Each play was unlike another, equally exciting and it was just fantastic, with the lighting, the costumes and the wonderful acting.”

Amrita T (Year 7) added: “I hope we do it every year because it helped me to feel more comfortable acting around my peers and it’s just so cool performing on stage!”

Kiara G (Year 7): reflected “I really enjoyed the experience of being able to perform a play with everyone in your House and I love that everyone gets a chance to participate.”

Francesca (Lower Sixth) said: “House Drama may have been a lot of hard work but it was still a very exciting, new experience. I think it helped me to gain a lot of confidence when it came to taking a leading role and I noticed lots of Year 7s equally grow in performance confidence. I had a wonderful time working with the lovely Year 7s in my House and it’s nice to always have them wave at me in the corridor now thanks to House Drama."

Tania (Lower Sixth) added: “House drama has definitely been a challenge but also a really, really rewarding process… I think the most important skill I have learnt from House Drama would be patience as we all had to overcome small disagreements and collaborate with each other in order to make this a success.”
