Drama and Dance

This Summer’s Years 7 to 9 production saw a select group of actors and technicians create their enchanting and funny interpretation of Arabian Nights.

They worked tirelessly to bring the magical world of Shahrazad to life, using clever and imaginative storytelling and physical techniques to stage Shahrazad’s spellbinding tales. This, version adapted by Dominic Cooke and originally performed at the RSC, challenges the actor to flow seamlessly between a narrative and character voice. This is a difficult feat for a professional cast let alone a group of young developing actors but it was tackled beautifully; drawing the audience in and producing many memorable moments.

The production demanded a true ensemble atmosphere and all staff involved in the production were hugely impressed by the generosity and resilience the cast and crew demonstrated, as well as the tight bonds that were formed across year groups. The high quality of the cast and crew’s performance and their commitment to a demanding rehearsal process has formed a strong foundation from which to grow the excellence of Drama at BGS, which can only be enhanced by the refurbishment of our Drama and Dance spaces this Summer.
