Fantastic Beasts and Where to....

On Monday 4CS went on a mini beast hunt into the deep, dark depths of the Junior School gardens.

Under logs, nestled in roots and hiding in their damp leafy habitats - all sorts of fantastic beasts and creatures were found! After carefully securing their finds in observation pots, the girls used dichotomous classification keys to identify each invertebrate and then made their own detailed classification cards. Poppy Clarke commented: “I can’t believe a caterpillar only has six legs” as she examined her find through a magnifying glass.

Miss Crawford-Smith, Junior School teacher, adds: “This was an ideal opportunity for the girls to actively explore the habitats around them, and compare these with the rainforest habitats that we have been investigating in our Enhanced Curriculum lessons.”
