Lower Sixth student Sophie Lewis once again produced magnificent results on the track, bagging three gold medals at The Next Generation (11th – 13th January 2019) international competition in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Representing the Great Britain Cycling Team, Sophie competed against the very best riders across Europe and the United States in the team pursuit and multiple different bunch races.
Sophie, who also represents Cycle Team OnForm said: “It was a really enjoyable and tough few days of racing with multiple races in a short space of time. Competing for Great Britain was an honour and I am looking forward to doing more races with them in the coming year.”
“I had some great results; as part of a team of four I won gold in the team pursuit, beating a very strong German team in the final. I also took gold in the tempo race and the madison race, lapping the field in both."
“Not all the races went to plan, crashing in the elimination race, set me back a bit and destroyed one of my race wheels, but I still managed to get a top 5 in all but one of the races. I am now looking forward to the senior national track championships at the end of the month, competing against multiple Olympic champions.”
In October 2018, Sophie was selected for the Great British Cycling Team Junior Academy Programme.
The programme is focused on developing the country’s best junior riders, ensuring that they are ready for life as full-time athletes. Sophie has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Girls’ Endurance category.
