It’s been a busy 18 months for inspiring student Lucy Scott (Year 8), who has raised just over £1500 in aid of Myeloma UK, as a tribute to a family friend who passed away in early 2018 just before his 50th birthday.
Myeloma is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells. At any one time there are around 17,500 people living with myeloma in the UK. There are approximately 5,500 people diagnosed with myeloma every year in the UK. While treatments can be very effective at controlling the disease, at present there is no cure.
Lucy's fundraising efforts have included a sponsored walk in her village, a 'Go Orange' Day at the Junior School, drinks and ice-cream sales, a toy stall at her old primary school, a car boot sale, and a 21,000 steps walk in the Trossachs, Scotland with her father. Her most recent challenge was abstaining from chocolate for 11 weeks, the last day being today! She can now reward herself with a Christmas chocolate or two!
Lucy’s overall goals are to raise £2000 for Myeloma UK by Easter 2020 and to continue raising awareness of the vital work carried out by this charity in helping patients/their families and supporting medical research.
Lucy would be very appreciative of any small donation to her fundraising here.
