Mrs Lovett (Head of Food and Nutrition)

The Food & Nutrition department asked students and staff to participate in the second annual Ready Steady Cook competition!

The task was to work in pairs and produce a dish, making the best use of the ‘mystery bag’ ingredients. The effort the participants put into the competition was phenomenal; they worked with others who they may never have spoken to before.

There was a mixture of students from different year groups, and staff, working together. Most of the teams had met beforehand to plan what they were going to do. The dishes were judged by Mr Pickard (Chef Manager), Mr Williams (Head of Learning Support) and Mrs Hooley (Assistant Head).

The judges commented that they thought, “there was an excellent demonstration of skills throughout some of the dishes”, “good use of flavours” and “every dish had different qualities that were worth commending.”

Third place was awarded to Nightingale who scored particularly highly for their presentation. A very close (half a mark!) second place was awarded to Hepburn, who managed to make their own bread as an accompaniment to their well-seasoned pasta dish. The winners, with their fantastic array of three dishes and excellent use of the mystery ingredients, was Chanel.
