Miss Greig (Mathematics Teacher)

On Friday 7th February, schools across the UK came together to celebrate Number Day, a maths-inspired fundraising event that raises money for the children’s charity NSPCC. Funds raised from Number Day support NSPCC services such as Speak Out and Stay Safe, who help keep children safe from abuse and support families during difficult circumstances.

At BGS, Year 7 celebrated the day by participating in fun mathematical activities during their Mathematics lesson. The girls played the board game Math Magic, competed in quizzes and calculated mathematical problems from fun music videos.

For their homework, they also created a poster of their favourite number and prizes were given to the best poster in each class. Moreover, Ms Rogers (LRC Manager) created a wonderful maths display in the library to encourage students of all ages to try puzzles and read books such as Fermat’s Last Theorem. During break and lunch, she gave out Sudokus and Number Day crosswords in the library for girls to try. House Points were awarded to all girls (and staff) who successfully completed either.

The day was a fantastic success and the girls raised £65 for the charity. If every school in the country raised the same amount that would be a whopping £2,130,050!

Thank you to everyone who helped run activities on the day and to all those who took part!
