Investigating Plant Growth

Sixth Form Science

We are so pleased to see our wonderful students back in the labs once again. On Thursday morning, the Upper Sixth Biologists carried out a practical investigation to assess the effect of concentration of plant growth substances on root growth and shoot growth.

The Biologists have been working in pairs, but not sharing equipment…the new normal of problem solving to get practical work done! They then had to write a risk assessment including COVID safety implications and generate a scientific hypothesis in terms of what they think they will find out.

Mrs Wathen (Head of Biology), added: "At BGS our focus is very much on enquiry based learning.  Many of our students go on to science based degree courses. It is therefore imperative that their practical skills are robust. We are pleased to be introducing practical work safely back into the classrooms."
