Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)

Year 3 have started their journey on the IB Primary Years Programme and their first Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are.  They were given a challenge to recreate Bedford Butterfly bridge, appealing to their own creativity. They had to pick carefully as they weren’t allowed to change once they had decided!

They were able to choose from an independent, quiet activity using written words, a messier partner activity using paint, an abstract individual activity or a mathematical activity, all with the same stimulus.

They were only given a fixed time to recreate it and afterwards, we reflected on our choices, feelings, struggles and joys and came up with some burning questions, focusing on WHAT we learned about ourselves and HOW our choices matched our identity of who we are.

The girls showed great use of our Learner Attributes, particularly going out of their comfort zones to be risk-takers and reflecting on how they would perhaps have changed their choice, were they to complete the activity again! It was a great insight into the individuality of each girl and we are looking forward to developing their understanding of how belonging to a community contributes to our identity.
