Whole School Art & Textiles

On Tuesday, a group of Year 10 artists soaked up the sunshine in Bedford whilst researching the surroundings for their Structures project.

Emma Cato reflected: “During the morning we took pictures of structures and drew from primary sources. We visited the Bandstand, the Suspension Bridge and St Paul’s Church. We spent time drawing the structures and capturing the different edges and curves. At the church, we took pictures inside and out and drew windows, door handles and the spire. Overall, it was a great trip and we got a lot of photos, drawings and inspiration for our coursework.”

Amy Sturt added: “Some of our photographs that we took were inspired by artists such as Ian Murphy. My favourite part of the day was sitting outside the church drawing the intricate structures. I enjoyed the trip and got some good experience of primary source drawing.”

Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles), said: “It was fantastic to be able to take Year 10 Art and Textiles students out of school for the morning. We spent time drawing from various landmarks along the river and in the town centre. The Girls were able to have some guided drawing tuition, and then some time working on studies of their own choosing at St Paul’s. The work they developed was of super quality, and they will be able to reflect on what they have gathered as they develop their creative research further over the coming weeks.”
