Mrs McKinnell (Music Teacher)
We have been very pleased to be able to continue to offer girls the opportunity to participate in our Lunchtime Concerts, which occur termly, in a remote form.
This series of concerts is particularly important to students who might be preparing for ABRSM and Trinity exams. It gives them a vital opportunity to air an exam piece, and ensures that they have their performances prepared to the level required before needing to perform for their exam.
Some of our performers were preparing in such a way, others simply wanted to perform for fun and wanted to share their music making with others. The latest programme comprised a lovely variety of performances including singers, flautists, pianists, and demonstrated music from a range of different genres. The video is available here. We do hope that you enjoy listening.
An Evening with A Level Music gave our Music students a chance to share a piece of work that they have each completed over the last few weeks. Our Lower Sixth students had created iMovies, exploring different aspects of music theory as part of the start to their A Level course. This allowed them to therefore approach their composition and analysis work with a greater degree of confidence. The students have also shared a solo performance (performance counts for 30% of the Music A Level, and is a vital part of the course) and an iMovie demonstrating some analysis of one of our set works, Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz. The girls study 18 set works as part of their course, which covers a huge range of genres and styles from vocal music and music for film to jazz and new innovative directions for music in the 21st century. This video is really be worth a watch for any student considering studying Music in the Sixth Form, watch here.
