Mrs Horton (Drama Teacher)
Last Summer term, a group of Year 9s worked together to create an outstanding performance of an adapted version of Shakespeare’s King Lear. Throughout the play, themes of power and loyalty are questioned; right up until the end, we are never sure who can be trusted.
Our performance saw the humiliation and ultimate demise of Don Lear, the matriarch of a Sicilian Mafia family whose daughters plot to overthrow her and take over the family business. The end result was far removed from what many would expect to see from an interpretation of the original text, and required the cast to be very open-minded and flexible in their approach using fluent thinking to generate unique and creative ideas!
The video of the production can be viewed via this link: here.
We hope you will be moved by some of the incredibly powerful performances from the cast and recognise the amount of effort and thought they put into creating this enjoyable and, at times, very dark production. We hope you enjoy watching it!
Please note: There are many references to the 1970’s film The Godfather, so this performance may not be suitable for under 12s.
