We were delighted to invite BGS alumna, Emma Brown (2013), to the textiles department on Wednesday, who collaboratively taught the Years 8 to 10 students with Miss Nelson (Art and Textiles Teacher). Having graduated from Loughborough University with a BA degree in Textiles, Innovation and Design; Emma particularly enjoyed supporting the Year 8 screen printing lesson and was amazed at the abstract way in which they were working.
Emma said: “I was amazed at how willingly the students cut up their sketch-work to create templates for their prints and the creativity they showed in their use of colour and abstract design. The designers they are referencing are really contemporary.”
Miss Nelson said: “This was a big picture moment for both the Years 8 and 9. Students were able to talk to Emma about her textile experience at BGS and how this developed into a passion for printed textiles, which she subsequently went onto study at university. It offered them an opportunity to discuss Emma’s creative work at Boden and to make links to textiles and the world of work”.
With the Year 10 class, she worked the room; discussing the direction of their work and offering the students opportunities to talk about their work and offering guidance on the direction of their work.
