Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)
Year 3 have been revisiting the rules for adding the suffixes -ed and -ing to verbs. At BGS, we believe that spelling skills do not come from learning a set of words. Whilst there is a benefit of automaticity in keyword learning, the skill of applying spelling rules to any word, gives a deeper-rooted understanding.
The girls were challenged to teach someone else how to apply these set of rules to ‘root’ words, using any form they felt appropriate.
They certainly gave their teachers a run for their money, with the level of understanding they showed. Mrs Woodhouse, English Coordinator in the Junior School was very impressed by the creativity of the pupils and the connections that they made. They each received a special badge!
