Miss Fisher (Year 5 Teacher)
Ever since the government’s announcement on 100% green energy by 2035, we have taken an even keener interest in educating the girls about reusable energy, through their Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry. This week, Year 5 were extremely fortunate to witness a fantastic talk by two leading figures at Onyx Insight - a company that maintains and monitors the effectiveness of wind turbines.
During the presentation the girls were introduced to fascinating facts about how the turbines are designed, built, maintained and their effectiveness of clean eco-friendly energy production.
Rosanna Melvill (5F) said: “I learnt a lot from the talk and I really enjoyed it. I learnt how wind turbines have changed over time and why they are improving them. I also learned about how they are made and that they are getting bigger and bigger, they have to use a big boat on stilts (to stop it rocking) to build them out in the sea. I found out so many new facts!”
