After outstanding performances in the fast and challenging cross country trails at Sharnbrook Upper School in late January, our athletes continued their fine form at the County Cross Country Finals. We had 17 students selected for this event, who represented BGS and North Bedfordshire by finishing in the top 16 at the District race last month.
Held at Ampthill Park on Wednesday 9th February, the BGS students competed in a very challenging course with a number of hills to tackle. The determination and effort made by the athletes was evident from all who watched and many spectators commented on how many Damson shirts were evident around the course.
Five students have been successful in their selection for the County Team having finished in the top eight and will now go on to represent Bedfordshire at the National Finals in March, a further four students are also in consideration and will await notification having finished in positions 9-16.
A special mention must be given to Jessica Parrish (Year 9) who won her Junior Girls race with an amazing run to become County Champion. Megan Barnicoat in (Year 6) also had a superb race to finish 2nd in the U13 event (Years 6 and 7).
