Mrs Thomas (Year 3 Teacher)

To continue our learning into our central idea Buildings and structures are designed according to different factors, Year 3 had a very inspiring walk all along the Embankment area of Bedford. They were tasked with being detectives; to look around for interesting buildings and structures and look carefully to see what materials they thought were used and why. Using their iPads, they gathered evidence and took photos of the buildings they thought were significant in any way.

It was fascinating to see so many different building styles and ages in one area and to have the opportunity to think about when each was built, what material was used and why. Our next challenge is to dig a little deeper. We will now study all of the photos taken and categorise them, finding out more about how the buildings and materials have changed over time.

Sophie Morris (3T) said: “I realised that not all buildings and structures are made of the same material and that they are located in a specific place.”

Olivia Edmundson (3M) said: “It was my favourite part of this Inquiry. You can see photos of buildings anywhere online, but to see them in real life helped me to connect with it and enjoy it.”
