Mrs Mason-McLeod (Director of Sport)
For many, Wimbledon is the highlight of the tennis calendar but that is certainly not the case here at BGS!
Saturday 25th June saw the return of the much-anticipated School Tennis Championships. With entries from Year 3 upwards there was plenty for the spectators to enjoy along with some rather delicious strawberries and cream served throughout the day.
The tournament ran in three groups with the Years 3, 4 and 5 players competing for their age group trophy in the first round. The conditions were typical of an English summer’s day, with all-weather fronts making an appearance, which certainly added an extra ‘spin’ on things. However, the students played some impressive tennis and were seemingly not bothered by the high winds and varying temperatures!
In the second round, it was the turn of the Years 6, 7 and 8 students followed by the Year 9s in the afternoon. Approximately 100 students were involved in the event which also saw many Senior School students umpiring and helping the junior school students with their matches. The Year 10 tournament took place last week due to the Edale residential and the Lower Sixth will be battling it out next week in their PE lessons due to a number of university open days taking priority.
Well done to everyone who played and thank you to all the families including some lovely dogs who came down to support the event.
Congratulations to the following students who were the winner and runner up for each age group, view the full results here.
