There were certainly Great Pottery Throwdown vibes in the ceramics studio on Wednesday!
Using the theme of still life, our Year 10 students enjoyed an immersive hands-on day exploring both ceramics and etching. In ceramics, the young creatives reflected on the work of artist Ben Nicholson; exploring both positive and negative shapes of bottles and other still life objects, the students constructed a three-dimensional free-standing sculpture combining aspects of shape and form.
During the etching sessions, the students also reflected on the work of Italian painter and printmaker, Giorgio Morandi. Using a previously taken still life photograph, the students experimented with a cross hatching technique to develop a printed tonal study.
Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Textiles) said: “It was such a great opportunity for Year 10 to really immerse themselves in two very different areas of Art, to learn new skills and generate superb outcomes for their coursework. We very much look forward to getting the ceramic pieces glazed and on display.”
